Roger Clemens, one of the best pitchers in the history of Major League Baseball, has been found not guilty on charges of lying to Congress about using performance-enhancing drugs like steroids and human growth hormone.
As Joseph White reports for the Associated Press and published by NBC Sports, the perjury charges arose out of a nationally-televised hearing in which Clemens told members of Congress that he had not used steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs during his baseball career.
Just this past Monday, the jury in Clemens's case first deliberated for 10 hours and then acquitted Clemens of the charges against him, ending what White refers to as an "expensive" investigation that lasted five years.
Although Clemens wasn't charged - or does not appear to have been charged, to our knowledge - with a drug-related crime, the Clemens case makes us think about those other cases that involve illegal possession of prescription drugs, which includes steroids.
