A story in the Washington Post tells of a Texan who now faces aggravated sexual assault charges amid allegations that he kidnapped his neighbor and "hoisted" her up on a hog-cleaning lift and chained her to it.

The 59-year-old man could get life behind bars if convicted.

A Texas Ranger got the man to confess on audiotape. The accused man is asked whether she consented to sex, and he replies, "I didn't ask her. I had her gagged."

He also admits to being surprised by the police. "She'd been there 10 days [in his house] and I wasn't expecting you. Like I said, I got myself into something I couldn't figure out how to get out of."

In Texas, sex crime is taken very seriously. And, unlike many sex crimes involving rape allegations, the facts are generally not this gruesome (though still sometimes troubling). The point is that the accused deserves his or her day in court, regardless of the circumstances - especially when the accused, as in this case, faces the rest of his life in prison.
