Two high school boys are alleged to have committed sexual assault against a girl during school hours, as Naxiely Lopez and Martha L. Hernandez report for the Monitor. The incident is said to have occurred in the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo School District.
But the school district did not come out with the news after the incident occurred, causing some apparent upset among parents of children who attend the school. "When were they planning on telling us?" says one mother. "You expect this to happen during off hours when no one is around, but this is just scary."
The school district didn't break the news until reporters from the Monitor called the school after the two high school boys were criminally charged.
According to a document regarding the incident, the girl was "barred up," which refers to a high that one gets from taking the anti-anxiety medication known as Xanax. In this altered state, the girl was "lured" into the bathroom, where she was sexually assaulted.
