"Every image of child pornography is an image of a crime in progress," says San Antonio FBI Agent Erik Vasys, as Christopher Heath reports for KENS 5 San Antonio. "Shutting down these sites gives us access not only to the people paying for the pornography but also the people responsible for producing it."
FBI agents believe that the Chinese-born suspect was making up to $20,000 per month running lawful pornography Web properties with secret entries leading to child pornography, as Heath reports.
Two of the Web servers used in the operation were located in Dallas, Texas.
There were 18 child pornography websites in all, with paid subscribers "from around the world"; the FBI now wants to find the subscribers and stop those who are responsible for producing the child pornography.
As Heath reports, the FBI has 100 agents in 43 countries working on the "Innocent Images" task force.
In Texas, child pornography charges can result from mere possession of certain images, as well as distribution, production and promotion.
