The case involving a former liquor control agent for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission revolves around allegations of sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl.
As Danny Robbins reports for the Houston Chronicle, the girl had been recruited to work in underage drinking stings set up by the Commission, in an effort to catch the employees and owners of drinking establishments who served alcohol to minors.
The girl alleges that the former agent had sex with her in his vehicle in 2009, which led to a halt of the stings for two months. Now, there must be two agents in the vehicle when minors are brought to the stings.
There are other allegations, as well. In addition to the 2009 sexual assault, the former agent is accused of soliciting explicit images from another teen in 2007 and sexual harassment of other teens.
Prosecutors also allege "sexual encounters" with teens while working as a police officer in the 1990s, as Robbins reports.
Cases involving sexual assault and minors are very difficult. The public outcry often condemns the accused before he or she has had their day in court, which makes a vigorous defense all the more important.
