A Travis County man incarcerated on charges of aggravated sexual assault is now facing additional felony charges. The alleged crime? Law enforcement officials claim that he attempted to hire a fellow inmate to murder the woman he stands accused of assaulting.
Lamar L., 41, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault earlier this spring. According to police reports, the victim had large bruises to her face and had marks indicative of strangulation around her neck. After being taken to the hospital, physicians later determined that she had both a skull fracture and bleeding on the brain. In addition to these rather severe physical injuries, the victim informed law enforcement officials that she had been sexually assaulted several times.
The affidavit alleges that while Lamar L. was in jail awaiting trial on the sexual assault charges, he approached another inmate (who was about to be released) to learn whether he would be interested in murdering the victim in exchange for a large sum of cash.
Specifically, the affidavit states that Lamar L. gave the inmate a detailed description of the victim and the home where she lived, as well as the location of a crowbar he could use to commit the murder. In exchange for his assistance, Lamar L. offered the inmate cash that could be found in the home and proceeds from the eventual sale of the home. (Lamar L. stated that he was the victim's sole heir and would sell her property after his release.)
After being approached by the Lamar L., the inmate contacted law enforcement authorities to report the conversations. In fact, soon after his release, the former inmate arranged a jailhouse meeting with Lamar L. which was recorded by authorities (with full knowledge and cooperation of the inmate). In addition to the taped conversation, Lamar L. provided both a map and a sketch of the home.
The affidavit indicates that Lamar L.'s primary motive for the crime was his belief that if the victim was murdered while he was in prison, then law enforcement officials would believe that someone else committed the sexual assault earlier in the spring.
Lamar L. has been charged with first-degree criminal solicitation.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty. Names have been withheld to protect the identity/rights of the accused.
